When Lord Shankar came to know that Goddess sati had committed suicide, He became very angry at the turn of events. An enraged Shankar carrying the dead body of Goddess sati in his arms He stared the Tandav.
In order to save the universe and to calm him down Lord Vishnu cut the Goddess sati’s dead body into 51 pieces with Sudarshan Chakra. There places are called Shakti Peethas. The Kamakhya Mandir is special because sati’s yoni fell here.
