Durga Asthami occurs when people worship goddess Durga’s power and her victory over evil. It is believed that on the day of Durga Ashtami, the goddess killed the evil bull Mahashasura.
So, this day is a symbol of victory of good over the evil. It is celebrated on second day of Durga Puja.
Durga Ashtami Puja Muhurat (Date and Time)
The Durga Ashtami will take place on 28 September 2017. The ashtami tithi begins on 19:10 on 27th September 2017 and ends on 21:25 on 28th September 2017. Durga Ashtami is also known as Maha Ashtami.
During this time, all the 9 form of the goddess are worshipped and young girls who are yet to attain puberty are worshipped as a form of the goddess too. The latter is also known as Kumari puja.
