What is Dakshinavarti Shankh?


A Dakshinavarti shankh is a very rare type of conch which is not very easy to find, in fact many products are available. A true Dakshinavarti shankh is pointed in the southward direction at the tip and is rotated in the right side at the middle of it.


This shankh is dedicated to the goddess laxmi, the goddess of wealth and riches; she is the provider of abundance and prosperity in our life.


A Dakshinavarti shankh is considered very auspicious to worship with on the day of diwali as it is associated with goddess laxmi.


How to worship Dakshinavarti shankh for Diwali?


Dakshinavarti shankh is worshiped on diwali with set of rituals such as:


  • Take a bowl which must be clean of all impurities.
  • Add gangajal to the bowl or if not available than add plain water to the bowl.
  • Wash the Dakshinavarti shankh with it.
  • Now place the washed shankh on a clean cloth preferably red in color.
  • Chant the given mantra at least hundred and eight times to receive the auspicious blessings if goddess laxmi.
