Navratri 6th Day of Kaatyani Mata

Navratri 6th Day of Kaatyani Mata

Kaatyani mata is another roop of maa durga who is worshiped on the sixth day of navratri. According to mythology and puraan the origin story of the Kaatyani Devi began when brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh imparted energy from their eyes towards a mountain and a Devi emerged from it that was so beautiful that everyone was spell bounded by her presence.

Devi appeared with eighteen hands and was blessed by all the gods with their most feared weapons such as lord vishnu gave her his sudarshan chakra , lord brahma gave her his wisdom, lord shiva gave her his trishul and so did all the other devas. As she was very beautiful so the news was spread in the entire three worlds the earth, the heaven and the underworld, two demons chanda and munda went to mahisasur and told him about this beautiful goddess.

This made the demon ambitious to marry the goddess and he reached kaatyan parwat and asked the goddess durga to marry him, she agreed only if he can defeat her in the battle, then began the war that shook everyone it was impossible to know who will win but somehow Devi sat on mahisasur who was disguised as the buffalo and cut off his head.

This is also the reason why she is known by the name of mahishasurmardini, those who worship her are bestowed upon with courage and valor in their life and are blessed immensely to receive everything they desire, the period chaitra navratri and ashwin is the most beneficial time to worship the Kaatyani devi.
