As per our Hindu Scriptures, Goddess Durga is the real Mahashakti. The form and the formless, she is the root cause of creation, preservation and annihilation. Goddess Durga is the ultimate Shakti behind all creations including the Gods and Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Thus, Goddess Durga is worshipped in all her nine forms during Navratri. Mahanavami is the third and final day of Durga Puja. Thus, it is celebrated with all vigour all over India and Nepal.
Story Behind Mahanavami
As per Hindu Vedic scriptures, the story revolves around a monstrous bull form demon called Mahishasur. He was extremely powerful and due to the boons he had achieved, he had become a problem for all the Gods including Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Goddess Shakti then undertook the task, and incarnated in the form of a small girl and killed the demon. Thus, Goddess Shakti is called Mahisasuramardini.
Why is it Celebrated
The original power is Mahalaxmi that created the three pairs of Supreme Powers of this universe, Lord Brahma, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. Thus, Goddess Shakti is the essence of life and life is a creative endowment of Shakti. We thus, celebrate this source of life and everything else revolving around it in the festival of Mahanavami.
