Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirling

Kashi Vishwanath is the temple located in the district Varanasi in the state of Uttar Pradesh and is one of the twelve jyotirling that are located in Indian subcontinent which are dedicated to lord shiva. This temple has been constructed many times as many different rulers and bandits have demolished this time to time but still it is standing erect like always.

The mention of this temple is found in the vedas and bhagvat as well. The story jyotirling origin is very unique as once brahma and Vishnu went into an argument of being the most superior now both believed them to be the superior over the other and no solution was coming out but suddenly something happened which astonished both the lords.

A large spear of light appeared from nowhere and spread it self across the universe whose end was almost end to be observed from both sides, to find out who is responsible and where is the end of the light spear is both went in the up and down direction of it but were unable to find out the end point and returned back with humility and failure.

Brahma though lied to vishnu that he did found the end of the spear and Vishnu accepted his defeat but suddenly the spear started to break and a formless energy took shape of an individual who appeared in front of them whose presence was breathtaking, it spell bounded the other two lords and he told of brahmas lies, this made both brahma and vishnu accept that there is a greater power than them both whose form is standing in front of them both without a delay accepted him as the supreme lord. This third power was none other than Shiva and kashi Vishwanath jyotirling is dedicated to his swaroop.
