Diwali is arguably the most important Hindu Festival celebrated far and wide. The festival preparations and rituals typically extend over a five-day period, but the main festival night of Diwali coincides with the darkest, new moon night of the Hindu Lunar-solar month Kartika. This festival signifies Good over Evil, Knowledge over Significance.
Story behind Diwali Celebration
The story behind Diwali revolves around Lord Rama, son of King Dasharath and an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Lord Rama along with his wife Goddess Sita and brother Lakshmi returned to his kingdom after an exile of fourteen years. The kingdom reverberated with joy.
As per certain Hindu Scriptures, Pandavas also returned to their Kingdom after 12 years of exile and one year of unknown exile.
It is also believed that Goddess Lakshmi chose Lord Vishnu as her husband on this auspicious day and Lord Vishnu also returned to his abode in Vaikunth. Thus, due to the good mood of Goddess Lakshmi, devotees may be blessed with divine blessings.
